  • Political dysfunction results in death

The death of Renee Good during a federal enforcement operation is a terrible tragedy. It is also the predictable result of political dysfunction, polarization, and irresponsible leadership that has turned governance into theater and conflict into strategy.

The President continues to make brazenly antagonistic and defamatory statements against whole communities that disregard any respect for humanity, making it too easy to whip protesters into a frenzy by opposing political leaders, the media and activists who profit from violent escalation with law enforcement personnel. Politicians supporting sanctuary policies make no distinction between violent gang members and criminals versus migrants who work and try to assimilate, making it too easy to justify the harsh actions of large-scale ICE raids. No wonder political polarization continues to spiral out of control.

This is not a moment for rushing to judgment or performative outrage. Guilt or innocence must be determined through due process, not street verdicts or media narratives. If tragedies like this are to be prevented, our political leaders must call for calm and restraint—not imply there is a “duty” to protest in ways that endanger lives or nullify the constitution and our laws. If you don’t like what is happening, then it’s your duty to speak up peacefully, vote responsibly, and respect the result.

  • Support our Businesses

The Center Party knows we should be helping local businesses, but under Governor Polis, that is not what has been happening in Colorado before the Tariffs. Small manufacturers received virtually no support from Colorado’s government. Colorado shouldn’t follow the path of high-cost states like California or Massachusetts. The latest Chamber of Commerce poll ranks Colorado No. 38 in cost of doing business, and two-thirds of business leaders believe the state’s economy is on the wrong track. Haphazard tariff increases can damage our manufacturers, so the Center Party advocates for a more balanced and strategic implementation than what we’ve been getting from the current administration, but let’s not excuse or hide the damage already done.

  • All Political violence is harmful to our Democracy

We condemn all forms of political violence as immoral and harmful to democracy. We also condemn any hateful rhetoric which cheapens human dignity or inflames tensions. Our children learn that violence is acceptable if we allow these social illnesses to fester. The Center Party’s central premise is that political and thought leaders must lead by example and discuss opinions respectfully with everyone, and embrace that as Americans we all have a lot in common: reverence for our country; protection of everyone’s life, liberty, & pursuit of happiness; and a desire to build community for a better country together. #freedomofspeech #PoliticalViolence #civildiscourse

  • We call on our Congressional delegation to lead on Immigration and Visa reform

The mass detention of skilled temporary, mostly South Korean workers, ( including a few Chinese, Japanese and an Indonesian ) at a Hyundai plant in Georgia is the latest example of Washington’s incoherent immigration and visa policies. These were not criminals or gang members; they were engineers and technicians supporting billions of dollars of investment within the United States. Instead of welcoming their contribution, our broken system greeted them with handcuffs. Closing the factory and delaying further investments in the U.S. are terrible outcomes for our economy.

Colorado has always thrived as a home for immigrants. We benefit from their talent, hard work, and entrepreneurial spirit. But our state also feels the strain when federal leaders fail to provide clarity and limitations to immigration. Schools, health care, housing, and other essential services are stretched thin in part because Washington has avoided tough choices to properly manage the flow of migration for decades. When cities and states refuse to work with ICE inside the jails, it makes the community less safe, and adds to the overall immigration system dysfunction, pushing ICE into the community.

This cannot continue. We call on Colorado’s congressional delegation—our two U.S. Senators and our eight Representatives from both parties — to make this issue a priority in Washington. They may disagree on many things, but we need them to work together on this critical issue. A modernized visa system that allows labor to flow where American workers are unavailable, and a clear, orderly path to legal citizenship for those who wish to fully join our community – one that prioritizes the labor needs of our economy, would benefit both Colorado and the nation. A balanced system should include guest worker opportunities for those who contribute in essential but temporary roles, while reserving citizenship for those prepared to make a permanent commitment to our nation.

The Colorado Center Party advocates for real solutions, not partisan sound bites. We urge the Colorado Congressional delegation to take this opportunity to lead, to bridge divides, and to show the country that Colorado values both fairness and practicality for the benefit of our country.

  • Commenting on the OBBBA

This post is written by Steve Yurash, Chairman of the Colorado Center Party, and represents his personal viewpoint and not the viewpoint of the whole Party. We invite others to contribute posts on this and other topics.

The Republican One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) could add between 3 to 4 trillion dollars to the Federal debt over 10 years according to the Congressional Budget office. The Federal debt is a huge nightmare and financial disaster waiting to happen. It costs more to pay interest on that debt than pay our defense budget bill every year. This is a beginning of a debt spiral that will ruin people’s retirement funds and pensions that invest some of their money in Treasury bills. The Republicans think we can grow the economy faster than the government spending increases. Is that even possible when the unemployment rate is below 4.5 percent? The Democrats think we can increase taxes on the wealthy, even though the top 5% of earners already pay 61% of the total revenue each year. The truth is somewhere in between. The Congressional Budget Office did not put the economic growth difference between bill and no-bill into their calculation of the additional deficit due to the OBBBA. Hopefully the deficit increase will be smaller than the CBO estimate, but its certainly not zero increase to the debt. Can we ask wealthy individuals to pay a little more in taxes without them moving away or somehow shifting their money to avoid taxes? Probably we could do a little more, but certainly not enough to close the deficit. We need to maintain a free market with incentives to earn money, a meritocratic system, and not turn to Socialism, disincentives to work, and confiscation of wealth. The point is that the Colorado Center Party believes in a balance between the competing interests and preservation of things that work in society, staying away from drastic measures proposed by extreme elements on both sides, left and right, so we have stability, continuity and trust in our government that all sides are treated with fairness and equality under the law.

  • We support diversity in our community

The leadership of the Republican Party of Colorado has called for the burning of Pride Flags in a ridiculous display of hatred.

The Colorado Center Party condemns this abhorrent action against the human diversity we celebrate. The Center Party platform explicitly recognizes marriage equality for everyone regardless of identity and we support dignity and respect for everyone. No wonder so many Republicans are leaving the party. Happy #Pride Month!

  • Center Party Statement on Antisemitism on campus

Three Ivy league University presidents displayed a shocking lack of moral clarity on antisemitism during their recent testimony to Congress. Supporting the genocide of Jews does not require “context” to determine if it violates university policy, it must be condemned and stopped. Treating genocide as anything but the most heinous crime against humanity is wrong in any context. These University presidents should step down so that these Universities can breathe fresh air into these important institutions for respectful civic dialogue.

  • Center Party Statement on Invasion of Israel

The Colorado Center Party is appalled by the barbaric terrorist invasion of Israel by Hamas. We agree completely with the statement issued by our European allies, “We make clear that the terrorist actions of Hamas have no justification, no legitimacy, and must be universally condemned. There is never any justification for terrorism. Our countries will support Israel in its efforts to defend itself and its people against such atrocities. All of us recognize the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people, and support equal measures of justice and freedom for Israelis and Palestinians alike. But make no mistake: Hamas does not represent those aspirations, and it offers nothing for the Palestinian people other than more terror and bloodshed.”

  • Center Party achieves Minor Party Status

The recently formed Colorado Center Party, www.CoCenterParty.org , gained minor party status this month from the Secretary of State. Minor party status allows the party to nominate candidates for the general election ballot without having to collect petition signatures to get onto the ballot.

The Colorado Center Party was launched in January of 2022 when they held their first election of officers and Executive Committee members. It is not affiliated with any national organization. The Center party has a platform that is pro-choice on abortion, fighting crime by maintaining cash bail for those accused of a crime and support for police with strong civilian oversight, and government financial responsibility through a balanced approach to taxes and spending. www.CoCenterParty.org/issues.

The Colorado Center Party hopes to attract candidates to run under its banner in the sensible center that are independent minded and would have otherwise run as independents. The two major parties have continued to veer out to the extremes of left and right, leaving an opportunity for the Center Party to attract many of the 47 percent of Colorado’s voters who are unaffiliated and fed up with the hyper-partisan views of the two major parties. The Secretary of State’s voter rolls show that Democrats and Republicans continue to lose registered voters. In just August alone, the Democratic party lost 1,145 voters and the Republicans lost 1,394 voters, a strong indication that a majority of voters feel that change is needed.

This year several Colorado municipalities will begin using Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) in their municipal elections. If voters like using RCV at the municipal level they may want to use it for the state level races too, which would be a big boost to the Colorado Center Party and other minor parties, greatly enhancing the candidate choices for voters.
